Liebes gutes Beatchen!

My dear, darling Beate! I was delighted to receive
your letter dated December 26, 1941, and thank Edith or Margot very much that they are so nice and helpful and write to me. So, in the new Children’s Home it’s even
nicer than the home at Château Montintin. Hopefully schooling will start for all of you soon, and do your best to learn well, dear Beate. I want to see whether I can send
you your little suitcase. Did your things go lost? Please write me exactly what happened. Pay attention that you don’t lost the handkerchiefs. And please write to dear Susi, too. She writes that she waits every day to get mail from you. Whether you will soon be moved to join her I don’t know. The main thing is that you are well-behaved and obedient, and are grateful to everyone. Never forget
to say thank-you. Learn only French, it is a beautiful, genteel language and I always regret that I can’t speak it. Do you always say your prayers and all your b’rachot blessings? Mrs. Löwenstein sent me another package, and the cookies were also from her. Does the knitted cardigan sweater fit you? Susi’s address:

Here we have nice weather during the day, but it’s cold evenings and mornings.
In any case, my dear children, you can be very happy
that you are so well cared for. Aunt Clara is doing
well, as are the Hirsches. Be sure to keep clean, my child,
and always bathe and wash thoroughly, and make sure you dry inside your ears.
You’re probably delighted with your little white bed, that’s really just like
at home.

<postscript>
Yesterday evening Mrs. Strauss brought me
another little letter from you. She is doing well.
Warm regards to Margo and Edith, too.
It would give me such pleasure if you, dear Beate,
would at least write a few words yourself.
