<closer>Recevez, chère Mademoiselle, nos bien meilleures salutations.</closer>

<salute>Dear Miss Bardon,</salute></opener>

<p>In response to your letter of March 14 in which you ask us how much longer the Stern children will remain in France, we hasten to impress upon you that we ourselves know absolutely nothing in this regard.</p>

<p>The procedural steps for their emigration are duly proceeding, but at the present time we are unable to provide any exact schedule. In fact, even if the entry and exit visas have been granted, it’s still necessary to obtain authorization to book passage on a ship, and, in times of war, no precise statement can be made in advance. While it could be that the children will depart within a month from now, it’s also possible that things will drag on for some time yet.</p>

<p>We do not believe that it would be useful to relocate the children yet again, but we leave it entirely up to you to assess the situation. In any case, it would be helpful to not move them outside of Aveyron, as we have</p>

<pb/>

<p>indicated<ref target="n01">1</ref> your address to the police authorities as the childrens’ current domicile.</p>

<p>If it appears to us that proceedings will drag on somewhat, we could perhaps have all the children come to one of our houses in the Paris region to process them all through one single police administrative office.</p>

<p>We will keep you up to date, and we kindly ask for your patience until then.</p>

<closer>With cordial greetings, yours sincerely.</closer>
