<back><note xml:id="n01">While the year is not written out, the number "6" and context indicate this letter most likely was written in 1946 as a delayed response to a letter from July 12, 1945. According to Vivette Samuel's 2002 book "Rescuing the Children: A Holocaust Memoir," the O. S. E. made every attempt to follow the children after they were placed with relatives.</note></back>
