<salute>My Darling —</salute></opener>

This is a red letter day honey, I hit the jack-pot
again. Received five letters from you of
Mar 1st, 2 of the 2nd and one of March 20th. Also received
a nice letter from Charlotte of the 20th and a very
good letter from Jake. The four from Muskogee
of course were older but I enjoyed them just the
same. Some of my letters are apparently reaching
you in seven days also. That really is good time
considering all the handling on this side.

Your mention of the box you packed with
the cookies and candy really sounded swell.
Incidentally honey, please don’t spend your money
for pipe tobacco for me as we are getting all we
want now, in fact I have some extra on hand
but will use it before too long. I have two pipes
and have been smoking them quite a lot. We also
get all the cigarettes we can smoke and the tobacco
is all for free. Good deal don’t you think. I am
returning those you sent me as soon as we
are allowed to mail packages. Regarding the
underwear, I think the old will be okay as I hear
they may issue summer underwear but if not
it will last until I can write for more. Anyway
don’t bother to buy any more at present.

The record idea sounds swell and I hope I
find some place to play it before it gets broken. One
place we were in had a phonograph however it
is the only one I have seen but bet I will locate
one someplace. Would surely love to hear your
voice again but would much prefer of course
that it be in person. Maybe it won’t be too long
before I can if things continue as well the next
few weeks. As you have probably heard all
our armies are now across the Rhine so it

<pb facs="soh.sto002.00070.002"/>

shouldn’t be too long now. I hope.

I am sorry to hear about Jean’s husband
missing in action however he may show up
some place. I hope he didn’t crash as after
pulling that one aviator out I can see what
may happen.

Its nice that you can meet the girls for
coffee before going to work even if you cant
have lunch with them. How does it seem to
be working in Omaha again? The Red Cross
has a doughnut making machine near us
now and one of our boys works over there.
Miller and I went over a couple nites back
and got a bunch from him. They really tasted
good.

The band is quartered in a house across
the street from us and consequently have chow
here as I guess they have no kitchen. They came
over today and gave us a concert in front of
our building. Really sounded swell to hear
some good music again. They even played
“Stardust” and “Swinging on a Star”.

The weather hasn’t been so nice the past
three days as it has been dreary and raining. I
hope it breaks again soon and the sun will
come out nice and warm. It is so much
better for doing laundry too and of course we
have to think of that now.

Well sugar, thats all the news for today
maybe I can do better tomorrow. Bye for now.
