Samuel N. WolfNational Jewish HospitalMr. Veret reported that the National Jewish Hospital was extremely anxious to
clear with the Federation the question of its Building Fund Campaign in Omaha. As
matters stood now, they requested inclusion in the Philanthropies Campaign for Building Fund purposes, or else permission to conduct their own campaign independently.A Memorandum on the experience of other communities was submitted, to enable
the Board to learn what was happening in communities in this region in connection
with the National Jewish Hospital Building Fund project.Upon the suggestion of Mr. Milton S. Livingston, consideration of this subject
was postponed until the minutes of a prior meeting with the late Samuel Schaefer,
former Director of the Hospital, were submitted to the Board for review.Report on the D.P. Situation in OmahaMr. Jack W. Marer, Chairman of the Jewish Welfare Bureau, submitted a detailed
report covering the resettlement of D.P.’s in Omaha, in accordance with our agreement with the United Service for New Americans.Mr. Marer reported that during the month of October, 14 family units, consisting of 30 individuals, arrived in Omaha. He stressed the urgent problems created
by their arrival, such as housing, employment, health, and others, incident to
normal absorption in the community. He also reported that we were now committed to accept 96 units, during the current fiscal year. The United Service for New Americans requested our community to
accept an additional 24 units.Upon motion of Milton S. Livingston, seconded by Samuel N. Wolf, the Board
voted to approve the acceptance of the additional 24 units, and instructed the
Jewish Welfare Bureau to make the necessary plans for their absorption and care.Housing for D.P. FamiliesFollowing considerable discussion on alteration and remodeling of the Mikvah,
and the 1915 Capitol Avenue Property, the Board approved the following action:Authorize the Building Committee to spend up to a $1,000.00 to put the Mikvah
Building into shape to provide housing for additional families.Authorize the President to appoint a Committee of 5, to examin and inspect the
1915 Capitol Avenue property, and with authority to expend up to $6,000,00 in remodeling and improving the building to accommodate D.P. families. (Moved, Irvin Levin,
