Letter from Miriam Stern to Beate and Susie Stern, December 13, 1947

  93 Bethune Rd.
London, N. 16.
13th Dec. 1947
Dear Beate and Dear Susy,

I thank you very much for your letter and I am very pleased that you have got used to America so quickly. I think it is not bad dear Beate that you are the 3 rd in your examinations amongst so many children, but I do think that the lessons over there must be much easier than here. Dear Susy you do not tell me much what you do in school whether it is easier or harder. You certainly will have holidays for Christmas and so I am expecting a very long letter from you dear Susy about everything you do and enjoy. Did you write[deleted] to your friends? I got a card again from the library that you did not return the books. Adele told me that she gave them to Sarah Hockerman and I do hope she did give them back.

I hope you had a nice Channukkah. Bubi has been lighting the candles every day he knows the Brocho and Ma-ous zur lovely. He knows a lot of new songs again and he is getting quite sensible. He still thinks that you are very naughty girls not to come back as he so much wants you to come back. In the Kindergarten they had a lovely party and each child got a present.

This year it is not so cold yet and I do hope it will not be as we got very little coal. Dear Beate have you been to see my cousin Julius yet? I am still waiting   for your photoes. I don’t see much of Adel, but I do know that she is always waiting to get a letter from you.

Where do you eat dinner time, if your aunties also go out to work? How do they manage with the cooking and shopping? Do you go shopping for them, they probably cook at night for the next day. You still did not tell me any more about your house and your room. What plastic goods do they make in the factory where your uncle Albert works? Margot has been here yesterday. She is waiting to go to Johannisburg. Ilse had to go to hospital this week and I fe feel very sorry for her.

I nearly forgot to thank you for the letter for Bubi you sent to Scheilah. Bubi was very proud of the letter and the Pussy, of course he took it to Kindergarten. Do write to him again, he enjoys it very mcuh. All the neighbours and friends ask for you they are all most interested how you are getting on over there.

I am looking forward to hearing from you again soon. With love and kisses from all of us Yours auntie
