Letter from Clarence Williams to Gretchen Williams, January 10, 1945

  My Darling Wife —

This will probably be very boring as you can imagine the amount of news I can write (without divulging what they call military information) from the minor happenings on the ship.

I can say this has been a beautiful day in fact our first since leaving the states. The sun was shining brightly and the water was very clear and blue. I hope we continue to have such weather for the rest of the voyage.

If you see Irene tell her I have been looking for Alvin every day but so far haven’t seen him, may run into him later however.

Played some more cribbage with Joe this afternoon. I was pretty lucky and now 4 out of six. Haven’t run onto a bridge game as yet.

Gee darling what I wouldn't give for one of your good home cooked meals. When I think of some of them, and then of the food we have, you wonder how food can be so badly messed up and unappetizing without the Army doing it purposely. Ha! However that is only one of your many good points that I day dream about.

Well honey I know this is dull but am at wits end for any thing new. Always thinking of you and —

Loving you Clarence.
