Letter from Clarence Williams to Gretchen Williams, January 16, 1945

  Dearest Sweetheart —

Another day has passed and we are again boating some where on the sea. Was just out on deck and it was a beautiful evening. The moon and stars are shining brightly causing many reflections in the calm water.

Well honey, have been wondering how you were and if you are now feeling like a new person since having the dental work. Incidentally, how do you like Elsie’s dentist? Some difference between he and the Persian I’ll bet.

By the way do you remember Sam Baker who used to call on me at the store? I saw in the Lincoln Junior Link where he was now in the Navy. I saw some thing today that made me think of he and Lee Skelton. The band was on the deck this afternoon and really put out some swell music. Enjoyed it a lot since it has been a long time without hearing some.

The news broadcast tonite sounded very good I thought. I cant see how Germany can possibly hold out over another six months if Russia continues their big offensive. I believe this to be the real thing this time. The battle in the Philippines also seems to be going extraordinarily good for some reason. I am still wondering if Frank was in on that last invasion. Please let me know when   you find out. Am also wondering if Ralph managed to get home from Italy for Christmas. Have you heard from Bertha recently?

I have so many letters I want to write when we finally land. I owe Charlotte and Dorothy, Leo and Luana and several others. Must also find time soon to answer Jake’s but tho’t perhaps after landing we may have a few things more interesting to write about. Gee it seems like months since I have heard from you honey. I suppose its the same with you unless perhaps my letters were spread out over a period of days when they finally started arriving.

Well thats all I can think of for today darling but will try and do better soon. I hope you won’t find these too boring but of course every thing of interest is censored. I hope soon I can tell you all about it in person.

Bye for now honey
All my love
Clarence.
