Letter from Clarence Williams to Gretchen Williams, March 11, 1945

  Darling Wife —

I received your letter Feb 28th last night and it made me feel very good to read same. Your letters sound so much more cheerful since you have started receiving some from me. I know myself how much difference it makes when letters are received.

Regarding the bulletin you saw on the 250,000 men, it was also in our Stars and Stripes but was denied the following day by Sec. Stimson. Guess some one must have talked out of turn to make such a statement however it sounded swell while it lasted.

I was wondering a few days ago about Chuck Bremholm[?]. If he is in the Division I think he is, he isn’t far from us. Think I shall drop him a card and may get a chance to see him later if you can get the rest of his address. Perhaps it will be just as well for him to write me however if Ann has given him my address.

So you are still taking your Cod Liver Oil. I just want to warn you to keep it up as I am also taking two vitamin pills every day. We have them in our medical chests so most of us fellows are taking them just to keep   in condition. I’ll be so healthy when I get home you won’t be able to keep me down. Ha!

Was surprised to see that you had the party in honor of Mrs O'Neill. Are you living a double life honey? All that time I thought you were living in Muskogee. Ha! Apparently thats one of those William's I have often wondered about.

We went into town to a show last night so consequently I didn’t get to write you a letter yesterday. We saw a very good stage show put on by an armored division. They had two excellent orchestra’s besides several other good sets. The picture that followed was old and really terrible. It was “Take it Big” with Ozzie Nelson, Harriet Hilliard and Jack Haley and it wasn’t worth sitting through even though admission is free.

We came back to the Station from the Company this morning to be on duty for another week. After being down there I think I have more time to write from here than there. Think Insull and I will go to the show up here tonight. I hear the picture is “Up in Mabel's Room” and those who have seen it say it is very funny. Well darling that's all for today except I love you.

All my love Clarence.
