Letter from Clarence Williams to Gretchen Williams, October 12, 1945

  Dearest Gretchen —

I had planned to write you last night when I returned from the show in Salzburg but it was about 10:30 when we got back and I was so tired I went to bed. Sgt. Stuart, Lupa, one of the new boys and myself went to the Roxy, in the Jeep, to see “Pillar To Past” for the movie and “Design For Laughing” was the stage show. I had seen the stage show here in Hallein but enjoyed seeing it again. The movie was one of the best comedies I have seen in ages and we had many good laughs. As we were leaving the theatre Lt. Hunter hollered at me and wanted a ride back so the five of us piled in the jeep on the way back.

I received your letter of the 2nd yesterday and hope I get some more tonite. I understand there was quite a lot of mail came in today for our Battalion and surely some of it will be for Co. “A”.

Jessen and I just returned from having a nice hot shower down at   the chemical factory. We had a little trouble with the civilians there at first when they told us there was no hot water. Some Lt. came in from Calvary and started raising hell. He finally went up stairs and opened the valve releasing the hot water. That has happened before so apparently they have been lieing to us. We told them we would have the Military Govt. down there in the morning.

Honey I remember very well the time at Fern and Leonard when we set our watches ahead. We also had to set ours back a short time ago. I hope it won’t be long before they can visit us in Lincoln. Imagine Leonard will get out of the Navy on points before long or perhaps we will get out about the same time.

So Karl and Bernice are back in C.B. again. Are they back for good or does Karl plan to work elsewhere after being released? I’ll bet their baby is plenty cute and she should be the happy type being around some one like Bernice.

Well honey, thats all the news for now — so Bye-Bye —

I Love You Clarence.
