In late May 1936, Alfred Speier sailed on the Steamer Columbus on a visit to his family in Lincoln, Nebraska. This is one of the images taken aboard ship. He returned to Germany in late June 1936 aboard the Europa. Alfred and his wife Kate were sponsored by relatives Sam Speier and Albert Speier and were able escape Nazi Germany and settle in Nebraska.
