THE PASSOVER HOLIDAY
By Alan Schulewitz
Pesach is a holiday when we Jews are encouraged to relive
the experiences of our ancestors.
The Exodus represented the transition of the Israelites
from being slaves to man to becoming servants of God. There
is no greater freedom than submission to God. No matter how
physically enslaved Jews have been throughout their history
they have always been spiritually free because they have
known that God, not man, is their ultimate master.
Spiritual freedom means that we realize that life has a
sense of purpose and that we fit into a divine scheme. We may
not be able to fathom this divine scheme, but we must never
lose faith that God's promise for His people will be fulfilled.
We must never take for granted that one of the blessing of
being a free people is that we can decide how we want to use our
time. One of the responsibilities of being free is to spend our
time wisely and to fulfill our mission as Jews.
