Dear mom, pop, & all;
Hello everyone. Well how are all of you making out by now. Fine and dandy I hope. I am getting along okay and am feeling fine. So far, since we got in France, we have had very nice weather. It is very similar to the weather we had in Italy in the respect that it is real hot in the daytime and good nice and cool at night. All summer it has been cool enough at night to have two blankets. So you have some hot weather at home now to do you. I was afraid you would get some before the summer was over. It just wouldn't be Nebraska if you didn't get a little of it.
How is dad coming along with his road by now? Did he get her back in shape after the floods? So Iris really likes to help at Red Cross does she. I am so glad as it is going for such a good cause. I am over here where I know. Well I will write more later.
Love & Kisses
Melvin

Notes
Melvin Thielbar served in the military from January 29, 1943 until October 24, 1945. In a letter to his parents on January 25, 1944 (soh.sto013.00007), he was still in Italy. In this August 30 letter, he is now in France and compares the weather to what he previously experienced in Italy, thus we are dating the letter as being written in 1944.
