  Danbury, Nebr. Dear Melvin;

How are you this fine Sun. evening? It has sure been a swell day just like spring. We went to Uncle Ed's today for dinner. They were over here before you left and we hadn't been back so Guy decided to go get his returns from the farm so he can make out his income tax. Max didn't go with us he went hunting with Dick guess they walked all over the country and didn't get any thing either. We went up town last nite to the show it was "The Major and the Minor" don't know if you saw it or not but I tho't it was real good something different than usual. Joyce wanted to stay for the dance so of course we did. There was a larger crowd than usual I guess. I haven't gone to the hall since on Tues. nite before you left. Seemed terrible not to see you and Susie there. Say Melvin why don't you write and tell her if she wants us to we will go to Marion and get her when Joyce is going to the dance then we will either take her home or bring her down here to stay with Joyce. Sylvia suggested that last nite so tho't I would see what you tho't about it. She said Susie had only been there once since you left but maybe she goes some where I don't know. Tell her to call Joyce up on the phone If she even wants us to come get her and we will gladly   do it, for you. Mel Copley was there last nite guess he goes into the air corps right away he is just waiting for them to call him as he has already passed his examinations. There were no soldier or sailor boys up here at all, but they were a lot in McCook yesterday after noon I went over with Geroge's to get [?] a pair of slippers. They took grandad's car and it stopped going over but finally George blew out the pipe line and it took off again. I guess Barnie is still sick as Kate was taking care of his store last nite. Suppose he has the flu as his mother said he was roasting one min and freezing the next. George's went to Maurice's today as they had their car tore down and couldn't come over here. Guess he can't get parts for it and when I asked him what he was going to do he said, "put the dam thing back together like it was and run it!" Parts are sure hard to get. Sophie's had a letter from Myron and he said he finished his 4 mo of school and had a diploma he was sure proud of. How are you getting along with your tests, and do you get as good as you did when you went to school in D. H. S.? Wayne Bryer said he had to scratch to get 85 and that was what he had to have and Kent said he had did more writing and studying in two months there than he had in college in 2 years

Merlin Cochran has one stripe now and told his mother next time she saw him he would have 2 with a T. Sophie said Army life had sure changed him. Oh yes! Ed said to tell you about Alvin Uehler you know him he was the one running around with Irene[?] Polky. Well he does just as he pleases in the army if he don't like any thing he tells them so. Ha! Ha! He was quite a few hardy always and guess he is getting bigger. Leslie Brun was also there last nite he is on his way to some camp gosh but he is a big fellow. He is driving Dean's car and sure covers the ground. Dean left his car in Oberlin with his sister when he left for camp. he wrote once and told them to sell it for $300 but they think it is worth more money and guess maybe it is. It looks nice if looks count any thing. Ours needs a good washing and cleaning but when it is warm the wind won't blow and when the wind blows it is too cold. When I was up to Sylvia's the other day (Friday) Pat got a card from one of the Morton boys asking her if she had a date for Sat. nite and if not could he have one. said he was sending her all his love. Isn't that the berries for a little snot like her? Bonnie sure had fit and told her the Morton's had the seven year itch. I think Bonnie looks terrible she has no color at all and is sure listless; Sylvia said when she was asleep she looked just like she was dead.

They are going after the pick up the first of the week as they have it done now, I guess. Invell[?] is going to run it. His mother asked him why he didn't go to work and he said, "whats the use I still have money." The funny part is tho he went to McCook Friday afternoon and asked to check on what Sylvia deposited for him and couldn't get any with out her, she got a big kick out of that and said when she got some for him she would sure help herself. Makes me think of a story I heard last nite will tell you altho it wasn't very nice. She asked me "why do they blind fold Hitler when he goes to wet? of course I bit now here is the Ans "because he wants to lick everything he sees. Isn't that just the truth tho?

Mom is washing dishes and dad is ready to go. Dad is going to mail it in Lebanon as they still think the mailman isn't coming today. Mother said to write soon.

Mother.
