OFF THE JOB - Guy Thielbar, right, accepts a plaque from Art Peterson, district superintendent, upon his retirement from the state highway department effective Tuesday. The new foreman at Holdrege is Dean Berry.

Guy Thielbar retires here Dec. 1; 34 years with Road Department

Guy Thielbar of Hildrege is loafing these days, having retired as foreman of the state highway department maintenance shop at Holdrege on Nov. 30.

A resident of Holdrege since his transfer here on October, 1957 as foreman, Mr Thielbar has been with the highway department nearly 34 years. He started out as a laborer at Danbury in May, 1932. After two years he became a patrol operator, which he held for 14 years. In October, 1948 he was transferred to Wilsonville as foreman, where he remained until moving to Holdrege.

A party was given recently in his honor by the other employes of the district, and a plaque was presented by Art Peterson, district superintendent. The Thielbars will move soon to Oberlin, Kan. where he was born.

Two sons are also with the Nebraska highway department—Melvin as shop foreman at McCook, and Max, with engineering department. They also have two daughters—Mrs. Joyce Price of Norcatur, Kan. and Mrs. Iris Smith, Washington, D. C.

Mr. Thielbar is a member of the Masonic bodies at Wilsonville and McCook, the R.A.M. chapter at Holdrege, and also the O.E.S. chapter of Holdrege. He lists his interests as ball games and car races, with fishing being his next most important.
