March 24, 1944 Lv. Camp Crowder, Mo. in special railroad car. Via Kansas City, Mo.,
Chicago (Mar. 25), Cincinnati (Mar.
26) and Richmond, Va., to Camp Patrick Henry, Va.
3-27 to 4-11-44 At Camp Patrick Henry, Virginia.
April 11, 1944 At Newport News, Va., boarded the 4500 ton Victory ship WILLIAM BLOUNT.
Moved out into harbor for
assembling of convoy.
April 13, 1944 Sailed from Hampton Roads in 90 ship convoy.
Slow because of accompanying destroyers and fuel tankers.
April 30, 1944 Arr. Oran, Algeria. Night on board in harbor.
May 1, 1944 Disembarked at Oran. Via trucks to staging area CP2
near Lion Mountain, east of Oran.
May 9, 1944 5SCT moved to a Sig Corps outfit's camp near La Sénia airport, not far from Oran.
May 10 to July 11, 1944 Lived in tents at La Sénia; worked in Oran at HQ of MBS.
Side trips to Sidi-Bel-Abbes (HQ of French For.
Legion) and Tlemen--and to Ain-el-Turck (rest camp on Mediterranean Sea).
July 11, 1944 Embarked on M. S. SOBIESKI at Mers-el-Kebir, w. of Oran.
July 12, 1944 Sailed for Naples. Arr. July 15. Ten days in tents with 1st Sig Bn near Cappodichino Airport.

5SCT went on detached service (Sherline, Picher
The rest moved to Naples (College of Architecture Bldg., not far from main Postoffice).
July 25-Oct. 12 1944 In Naples.
Team worked in HQ of PBS (Peninsular Base
Section).
Oct. 12, 1944 Sailed from Naples on British S. S. SAMSTEEL•
Oct. 16, 1944 Landed at Toulon, France. Team took over the Hotel Beaulieu, just east of Toulon. Small but comfortable.
Oct. 26, 1944 Lv. Toulon in truck & jeeps.
Via Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, Gap (on Route Napoléon where Pinky Aubin visited relatives), St. Claude, Besançon to Épinal.
Oct. 31-Nov. 12 At Épinal
Nov. 12, 1944 Lv. Ipinal. Night at Vittel (Hôtel d'Angleterre)
Nov. 13, 1944 At Lyon. Nov. 14 overnight at Arles (in hotel lobly).
Nov. 15, 1944. Arr. Sète (Hérault). There until Feb. 2, 1945.
Feb. 2, 1945 Lv. Sète. North via Lyon to Ste.-Marie-aux-Mines.
Feb. 4, 1945 Arr. Ste-Marie-aux-Mines, Alsace.
Feb. 6, 1945 Arr. Colmar.
Feb. 7, 1945 Night at Rossallemand (church downstairs, we slept upstairs).
Feb. 8, 1945 Arr. Mulhouse. Part of team went to Altkirch.

Mar. 12, 1945 Lv. Lunéville. Arr. Schiltigheim (suburb of Strasbourg in Alsace)
Mar. 14, 1945 Arr. Hoerdt (Alsace).
Mar. 18, 1945 Arr. Soufflenheim (Alsace).
Mar. 20, 1945 Arr. Eberbach (Alsace).
Mar. 29, 1945 Arr. Kandel, Germany
Mar. 31, 1945 Arr. Speyer, Germany. Easter Sunday (Apr. 1) at Speyer.
Apr. 2, 1945 Arr. Kirrlach, Germany. Our HQ in a cigar factory!
Plenty of cigars for all.
Apr. 5, 1945 Lv. Kirrlach at 1 A.M. for 7th Army HQ. After three crossings of the Rhine in one or two days,
the team
finally arrived at Herrnsheim (near Worms).
Worked
for 44th AAA Brigade until Apr. 17. Moved to Kitzingen-am-Main (Bavaria).
Apr. 17-29, '45 At Kitzingen, operating msg centr for 44th AAA.
Apr. 29-May 7, 1945 At Heubach (near Gmünd, in Wurttemberg).
May 7-15, 1945 At Starnberg, Bavaria, with the 44th AAA.
Nay 15, 1945 Returned to 7th Army HQ at Augsburg, Germany.
May 21, 1945 Lv. Augsburg, via Munich, Starnberg, Garmisch and Innsbruck to Zell-am-See, Austria.
An all night ride.
May 22, 1945 Arr. Zell-am-See 6 A.M. Set up message center for 7th Army Special Mission.
May 29, 1945 Visit to Hitler's bombed villa at Berchtesgaden.
May 30, 1945 Lv. Zell-am-See to return to Augsburg.
Convoy became
separated.
Code truck disabled and taken to Farchant
(near Garmisch). Rest of team continued to Augsburg.
Code truck personnel joined them there a few days later.
