A-R. C. CANTEEN
ENLARGES QUARTERS
WORKMEN NOW BUSY PAINTING
AND REMODELING VARIOUS
ROOMS.
SHOWER BATHS, OFFICE EQUIPMENTS AND OTHER IMPORTANT
IDEAS.
That the ARC Canteen at North
Platte will be one of the best, or
perhaps the very best in regard to
equipment and modern in every way
along the line is speaking lightly when
one really knows just what is being done
at the headquarters for the benefit
and convenience of the soldier boys
who daily pass thru here on their way
to the firing line in France.
Supt. Jefferies was in North Platte
the other day and thru his encouragement the managers of the canteen
here has been empowered to make
the new extensive improvements, now
being made in the way of painting
papering and the furnishing of the
vacant rooms not being in use at the
canteen building. The additional
rooms will be supplied with tables,
chairs and office stationery and a
piano will be installed which will provide a rest room for the soldier boy
as near homelike as possible.
In connection with this canteen
will add a stack of stationery, stamps,
postcards, and soft drinks to be sold
to the passer-thru which will also be
a great convinience to the boys who
are in want of such articles and who
may have a few minutes to secure
them. In conjunction with the above
the old round house has been donated
to the canteen management for an
exclusive shower bath quarters and
will be equipped at once with all the
very latest and best methods attainable for the use of the soldier and
will be provided with a regular attendant furnished by the railroad company, and all expenses will be paid
by the road, even to the laundry work
and all other necessary cost.
All this big work is now underway
and our present good women of the
canteen are to be heartily congratulated, for all these desirable improvements to the present canteen station
here at North Platte is the fruits of
their untiring efforts to serve the
country and make the men of war
comfortable during their short here.
