In constructing these interactive maps, we have carefully researched personal documentation and other historical records to provide a structure by which to tell the survivor and liberator narratives. Because of the personal nature of the materials used, the maps introduced here should not be considered exact representations of the journeys for each individual. We continue to review and update these maps where possible as new materials are found confirming or changing the data represented. Country borders and sovereignties represented in these maps are reflective of January 2022 rather than borders of the last century.
