Letter from the Jewish Refugees Committee to Bertha Gottlieb, December 20, 1944

Miss Berta Gottlieb, 64, Portsea Hall, Edgware Road, W.2.
RE: SUSIE AND BEATE STERN
Dear Miss Gottlieb,

With reference to your call here regarding your two small nieces in France, I do not know whether you have heard from them direct in the meantime, but if not I am sure you wil be happy to learn that information has reached us from the OSE - the Refugee Committee responsible for children - the Susie and Beate are safe, and have been placed in the care of a family at Aveyron, France. Unfortunately, their exact address is not yet available to us, but just as soon as this comes to hand we will let you know. Alternatively, should you learn of their whereabouts, do please inform us.

Furthermore, we are wondering whether news has reached you in regard to the parents of these children, if so, please be kind enough to let us know. At the same time, we should like to be assured by you that it is still your desire that Susie and Beate be brought to this country as and when travelling facilities are available.

Just in case you have already left this country for the United States, we are notifying Mr. Siegfried Stern of the above -   and who we understand is prepared to make himself fully responsible for the children should they come to England.

Yours sincerely, [?] JOINT SECRETARY
