Letter from Jeanette Gottlieb and Siegfried Gottlieb, April 22, 1945

Ich hoffe doch daß Ihr meine Lieben unseren Brief inzwischen erhalten habt. Wir sind gesund Gott sei Dank, hoffen und wünschen dasselbe von Euch. Nun hoffte ich von den lieben Kindern aus Frankreich einmal was direktes zu hören, doch habe ich mich wohl geirrt. Wir hatten anfangs März dorthin geschrieben, doch wie ich sehe und Ihr schreibt, geht die Post sehr langsam. Muß nun weiterhin Geduld haben. Habt Ihr dann einmal Antwort auf Eure gesendete Pakete? Die Hauptsache daß die lieben Kinder gesund mit Gottes Hilfe werden, auch liebe Rosa und Moritz zu finden sein. Der Winter ist gut vorüber. Nun daß es sehr viel geregnet, jetzt haben wir das schönste Wetter und ich kann viel draußen sein. Später ist es schon zu heiß für mich. Ich glaubt(e) Ihr hattet für Eure Lieben Wohnung doch nicht für wohl nicht wenn liebe Berta und die Kindern bei Euch sein werden. Nun ist lieber Albert   auch wieder Onkel geworden. Ich gratuliere und freue mich daß der liebe Vater doch so [?] und fleißig ist. Ich denke die liebe Flora arbeitet noch so viel. 9 Monate ist doch eine lange Zeit. [?] [?] und [?] keine Nachricht von Onkel Jakob* und Mathilde**. Grüße Alle von uns. Von liebe Berta habe auch sehr lange nichts gehört. Bis auf vergangene Woche hatte ich wieder aus-geschaut von Ihr. Ich wünschte daß sie bald bei Euch sein wird. Von [?] [?] ist es sehr nett daß sie Euch noch einmal besucht. Gruß lieber Albert und sie auch von uns. Ist ihre Mutter auch dort?

Meine Lieben, wir freuen uns dass es Euch gut geht. Liebe Mutter hat Euch wohl alles Wissenswerte geschrieben. Bei uns geht alles seinen gewohnten Gang. Ich arbeite nach der Arbeit noch privat, denn hier alles von Tag zu Tag teurer.

I hope that you have meanwhile received the letter we sent you, my dear loved ones. We here are all healthy, thank God, and hope and wish the same for you. Now, I had hoped to hear some news directly from the darling children in France, but I guess I was mistaken. We wrote to them in early March, but as I now see and as you write, the post moves very slowly. We’ll just have to be patient a bit longer. Have you had any reply to the parcels you have sent? Still, the main thing is that these dear children, with God’s help, regain their health, and that dear Rosa and Moritz can be found. Winter has now completely passed. After having rained a lot, we now have the most beautiful weather imaginable and I can be outdoors alot. Later it really does get too hot for me. I thought that you ended up not having an adequate apartment for your love ones, if indeed dear Berta and the children are to be living with you. Dear Albert has   now also become an uncle again. My congratulations, and I’m delighted that the dear father is so [?] and hardworking. I think dear Flora is still working so much. 9 hours really is a long time. [?] [?] and [?] no news from Onkel Jakob1 and Mathilde1. Greet everyone from us. I also haven’t heard anything from dear Berta in a long while. Up until last week I was looking again for news of her. My wish is that she will soon be with you. It’s very nice of [?] [?] that she‘ll visit you. Greet dear Albert and her too from us. Is her mother there, too? My loved ones, we are delighted that you're doing well. Mother really has told you all our noteworthy news. Here, everything is business as usual. However, I'm moonlighting on the side after work, doing private jobs, as everything here gets more expensive by the day.
