Letter from Clarence Williams to Gretchen Williams, February 18, 1945

  My Darling —

We havn’t had our mail call as yet for today so as yet I don’t know whether I have any letters from you. Naturally I am keeping my fingers crossed as I should be due to receive about four by this time.

My new job is records clerk for the clearing station and I am to make a complete record on each patient we receive. I think the work will be interesting and believe I will like same. The collecting station is set up in an old building that was formally a post office and telephone exchange. The people here seem very friendly and congenial in this little town. I came up here this morning and will probably be here for some time.

I saw Dan and Richie last night and they both asked about you and where you were. It surely seemed swell to see all the boys again.

The weather today is nasty again with rain and mist most of the time. You can imagine how happy we are when the sun finally does come out.

Well honey, chow has arrived and it is getting a little dark so must close for the present. Hope I can get a chance to drop you a few lines after bit but if not will tell you now “I love you.

Bye for now
Worlds of love honey
Clarence.
