Letter from Clarence Williams to Gretchen Williams, March 30, 1945

  My Honey —

I received your swell letter of Mar 20th including the two pictures. I really got a bang out of seeing them again and the one of we two in the living room really brought back many happy memories. One thing is certain we really enjoyed ourselves while living there didn’t we honey. I hope when we go back we can find a place to buy just as comfortable. I also received a V-Mail from Dorothy tonite dated Mar 17th. She mentions receiving three letters from me so apparently my mail is coming through okay.

Glad to hear you like your new position only hope you don’t put in too much overtime. Don’t want you to get run down and catch cold or something else. Sounds like a real nice place to work and apparently is considering the length of time Ruth has been there. Dorothy stated they were really happy to find some experienced girl and how glad they were to get you.

I was happy to hear that Charlie’s extension was granted. I think I would be half crazy if some thing like that was to happen to you. I hope every thing works out okay for those kids. Where is Charlie’s mother staying now? Is he still stationed in Ohio? Tell them I want to thank them for the record and be sure   and tell Clarence how much I appreciate his effort to make them for me. Is he still working at the laboratory on radio parts?

Honey I don’t know what the Gold Star award is for. I asked several of the boys and they all stated the only thing they knew of the award was killed in action. That being the case, I don’t think you would see service men wearing them or have you?

I sent the package containing the cigarettes you mailed me yesterday but it was returned today. It seems our post office is also on the move and won’t accept any packages for another week. I have carried them around with me about three weeks just waiting for the post office to accept same. Incidentally the main reason I am writing again tonite is because I probably won’t get a chance tomorrow. So, if both letters arrive the same day you can save one for the following day.

Well darling, think I better close again and get ready to hit the old sack. Will be dreaming of you. Bye for now.

Worlds of Love Clarence.
