Letter from Clarence Williams to Gretchen Williams, June 18, 1945

  My Darling —

I didn’t receive any mail today so am looking forward to same tomorrow. The last I received came in late Saturday nite.

I just returned from the show and was sorry I wasted my time as it was a no good Western. I don’t even know the name of the picture as they flashed on the screen “This is a Universal Picture,” then the film broke and the next thing shown was a list of the characters. Gee its wonderful to see a G.I. movie. Ha! After the show I stopped at the Awol Club for a beer and they had an old German Band for entertainment. It was the old “oomp, oomp” type and the boys were really getting a kick out of them. I went to the show last night also after writing those two long letters to you. Saw “Jamie” and thoroughly enjoyed that picture.

We have had Division Inspectors here today and I do mean inspectors, twelve of them. I suppose they have nothing else for them to do at present. Luckily I was away all morning because of going to Battalion to pick up the mail. This afternoon I went up to 2d Bn. Aid Station to do some typing which I finished around three O’clock. When I   returned, I worked out behind a rock wall in the shade to keep away from the inspectors and wouldn’t you know it, I ran into Insull and four other guys hiding there. We had quite a laugh over the deal.

This has really been the nicest day we have yet had in Schwaz. The sun was out all day and got quite warm this afternoon. I took ingredients up to Kufstein for ice cream today so we will have that for dinner tomorrow noon. They make it by using powdered milk, powdered eggs and everything else powdered but surprisingly it tastes wonderful. Boy how i could go for a banana split.

Well darling it is now after 10:00 so think I will turn in but will try and write more tomorrow.

Loving you Always, Clarence
