Letter from Clarence Williams to Gretchen Williams, August 4, 1945

  Dearest Gretchen —

This is another of those cold gloomy rainy old days and its really getting very tiresome. I hope it won’t be this way all through August as they say the winter some times starts here in September.

I finished up my C.Q. today at noon when Sgt. Harris went on duty. I am quite tired tonite as with sleeping on a litter and being cold all night, I didn’t get too much sleep. This afternoon Sgt. Harris was called for special duty as a medical aid man for Division Rest center at Bad Gastein. I don’t know what kind of a set up they have there but I have seen the town and they do have some very nice hotels. If Harry J. had his way, no doubt the rest center will be quite nice.

I am mailing you a little picture folder of Hallein. It doesn’t show much of the city or the building but does give an idea of how it is layed out in the mountains.

After chow this noon, Cooper, Jessen and myself went up to the hospital and had a nice hot bath. I had a bath yesterday and wouldn’t have needed one today except for the fact I had a wonderful dream about you last night honey and when I awakened, my shorts   of course were slightly soiled. Ha! I think you know what I mean. The dream was wonderful honey but I guess it was carried a little to far. Ha! Seriously it makes me mad when that happens as it is very uncomfortable afterwards and of course increases the size of my laundry. That was another thing that didn’t help my sleeping any last night.

With Insull, Zelnick and Harris gone it only leaves four of us to pull C.Q. now consequently we are on early 4th day. That plus making out my report each day and with helping Bob in my spare time has kept me fairly busy and helps the days to pass faster.

Well darling there really isn’t any thing of interest to write about today so will close.

With all my love Clarence.
