Letter from Gretchen Williams to Clarence Williams, undated

  Dearest Clarence:

The house sure do seem empty and lonely around here tonight after such a grand weekend. But then, that is true every Mon. night. (Also Tues. Wed. Thurs. & Fri. & now Sat. & Sun.)

I changed both beds and cleaned the bathroom a bit, worked out some things and am going to turn in after I write this. Bertha, her mother, nephew and I ate at Spencer's tonight. I think I'll eat at home the next few nights until I clean up what is left from last night.

Leo & Luana — also Stanley — got home last night. They got to see quite a bit of Victor and she says he looks wonderful and has gained weight.

Rec'd a letter from Edith tonight. She spoke of Bee & Karl's "blessed event" as though I had heard. So all news to us — she made no mention as to what it is or when it was born. Guess they wanted it a surprise which explains why she wasn't with Karl when he came home awhile back.

Luana also told me that Pat's father passed away the week before I came to Manhattan.

Honey you forgot to tell me when you would phone me but I assume it will be Sun. A.M. Don't imagine I'll be doing anything Sat. night unless I find one of   the girls is interested in staying down for a show. Want to get up early Sun. and get my washing out. Hope to also get it ironed but it will probably rain.

I hope you do not have too tough a week and will be thinking of you.

Guess I'll take my mineral oil and call it a day.

Goodnight Honey,
All my love,
Gretchen.

P.S. Forgot to tell you we had a real downpour here around 4:00 this A.M. Came in the window behind the refrigerator and soaked things good. By the time I had it cleaned up & back to bed couldn't get back to sleep. But that's life!
