Irving Shapiro's 50th Anniversary Speech Draft

The year 1995 - the 50th Anniversary of the end of the war, will be a special year for Holocaust survivors 50 years ago in the process of defeating the Nazi war machine allied forces encountered what was left of the European Jewry. Although it was not the main objective to liberate us, we are greatfull that they came across the concentr- camps when they did. Otherwise far fewer of us would survived.

After the war we did not become hateful and bitter or full of hate witch would have been very easy after what we went through. Instead we rose from the ashes of our trgedy to create a new life. Many of us came to the U.S. and knew nothing of this countrys language or culture-, We did not despair We worked hard day & night doing what was necessary to take adwantge of the opportunity this country provided.

We gradualy overcame many obstacles. and started new families build new homes and contributed in every way we could to the communities in which we settled. All that time we never forget our past.

We comited ourself to do everything in our power to remind others what can happen when people become hatefull and do not tolerate others just because of a different religion and believes.
