Rosenberg - Ilse Speier, 92, died at Green Hills Retirement Community, Ames, Iowa, Thursday (11/27/03). Born in Halberstadt, Germany to Alfred Speier and Kate Bluth Speier on Oct. 25, 1911. After graduating from high school, she attended the Reimann School of Design in Berlin and then returned to Halberstadt to work in her father's fabric store as a window display designer. In 1934 she married Ludwig Rosenberg, Sonneberg, Germany. In 1937 the Rosenbergs escaped from Nazi Germany with their infant daughter and settled in Lincoln. Ilse worked in the Speier and Evans laundries in Lincoln and subsequently for Gold's (later Younkers) department store. She volunteered for many years in the hospitality shop of Lincoln General Hospital. Ilse was a life member of Temple B'nai Jeshurun, Lincoln. Ilse moved to Ames in 1996. She was a member of the Ames Jewish Congregation and the Iowa Jewish Historical Society.

Survivors: daughter, son-in-law, Hanna and David Graddwohl, Ames, Iowa; son, daughter-in-law, John Rosenberg and Anke Boudreau, Madison, Wis.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Eva Speier, Ames, Iowa. Preceded in death by husband, Ludwig Rosenberg.
