Letter from Frida Rhein to Francis Silbernagel, March 18

Mrs F. Silbernagel 2201 Linden Street Pine Bluff Ark U.S.A. Camp de Gurs Bas Pyrenee Illot K 23 My dear sister and all

I just received the message that 35 dollars are here for me and got paid out 805 Marks the other 400 Mks I got a receipt and will get paid out in 14 days. I appreciate the money with best thanks so much as I am much in need as all others here. I wrote a letter about 2 weeks ago and am now more able to tell about getting away from camp. As soon we have the proper affidafits (support, politish and moral affidafit) and the money for the steamerticket we can apply for Marseilles the money for the steamerticket has to be send to to the Hias. They also will tell you what it costs and all particular. I hope to receive papers soon as I do not think that we stay at this camp very long and would be better if we could get to Marseilles. As if we would have to change camps, it is possible that we three Martha Lina Goldschmidt and I each one could get to another place and be separated. I met so many old acquaintance and relatives. A cousin from Leimersheim I met, which everybody says she favors me like a sister. Otherwise we are all well and gotten used in those 6 months to our fat There live 12000 people here which are nearly all jews. There are few french and spain people here They all nice to us, that we often forget that we are   not free. But there is no future whatever, as we have no close relatives which could take us in their home or help along to get us free. Just as I am writing this letter a lady from the american joint wrote me to get information if I received money from you and asked me if I have relatives in France. I told the lady that I have distant relatives, which send me packages mit food and a few pieces of cloth, but is not enough to think that it reach us and are not abel to do something for us to help us to get free. So U.S.A. is the only hope for us. I suppose you received my previous letters in which I mentioned my thanks for the money from December and January from which I given the 30 dollars to Lina Goldschmidt and Helen Simon as IEdwin wrote

I hope you are all well and close with loving regards to you all and Maris[?] Samuels family and remain as ever

Your thankful sister Frida With kind regards Lina Goldschmidt My loving regards Martha

I wrote they should send a small parcel about ½ Kilo. They are many people which gotten provisions by the way of Portugal - Lisabon and arrived all right. As soon I receive the parcel I will let you know what they send me.
