Letter from Clarence Williams to Gretchen Williams, January 3, 1945

  Dearest Gretchen —

Gee honey, I hit the jack pot yesterday, received three letters from you and one from Elsie (rather a card from her). I am hoping by this time you are starting to receive my letters more regularly.

I’m sorry to hear that Elsie had such a terrible time with her teeth. I would imagine she would be all in after that ordeal.

So Marilyn was thrilled at receiving the card. Would surely like to see her but suppose by the time I am able to she will be quite the young lady. Am wondering if Deb finally got the day job or merely relieved for Xmas dinner.

Imagine Jurgie will be surprised when he receives your account at the Bank. I think is a very good idea however because if you do decide to go home later that part will be taken care of.

Regarding the V-mail and air mail, I can’t know which is the swiftest but think your idea a good way to find out. I do know the air mail are easier to read.

Was surprised to hear of Mr Ambrister being replaced but then thats politics. It seems it isn’t how you do your work but rather how much you are on the inside with grafting the public. I think his reasoning was very logical.

Im hoping you received the roses I wired for your birthday. I did so from the Px here at camp and the girl told me she would try and rush the order there in order for you to receive them on the 3rd. Please let me know.

The weather here in still quite cold but is some warmer today. While I think of it, I would like you to send me a helmet, wool scarf and a sweater if and when you can find them.

Well darling, that’s about all the news for now. Will try and write again tomorrow. Until then I’ll be thinking of you.

"Bye for now"
All my Love
