Letter from Clarence Williams to Gretchen Williams, January 4, 1945

  Hi Darling —

I received your letter you had written Sunday after writing yesterday so will try and answer now. So you went to church with Mrs Mann, Ill bet she was happy that you went along. Our feeling is mutual regarding the week ends but of course one day here is no different from another. It was nice of Dorothea to invite your folks out for dinner and no doubt you will wind up in a bridge game afterwards.

So Nana has moved. I’ll bet Mrs Mann was relieved with her tearing around as you say. I think she was so much in love with Jimmy. Sounds as tho she was putting on a front, she is so fickle anyway.

From your letters sounds as though Fran will be soon moving out. I hope not for their sake. Even tho he doesn’t have a lot of free time at least they can be together occasionally which as we know means a lot.

If I could have sent a wire New Years Eve I would like to have wired Leo to put our name on the cork this year and hoping to be there next year to do it ourselves.

Last night twelve of us boys went over to the NCO Club and really had a good time. We had dinner there and then drank beer. Later some boys from the band came in with musical instruments and played while the rest of us sang. Still later the bag pipes came along and played while some boys from Canada or England did the Highland Fling. Soon the GI’s started doing it and it was really funny. We practically took the place over.

Well honey, there isn’t any more news I can think of at present so will close. You may not hear from me for some time now as I understand we are to be pretty busy for a while. Keep your chin up darling and Ill be thinking of you always.

"Bye for now"
I Love you —
Clarence.
