Letter from Clarence Williams to Gretchen Williams, January 5, 1945

  My Darling Wife —

Well honey, here we are some where on the high seas. So far the trip has been fairly nice as the ocean has been comparatively smooth however I don’t suppose it will stay this way after we get further out. We are on a fairly new ship and of course traveling in a convoy, other than that I can give no information.

There are several of the boys from Ft Riley (I mean we were all in the same group up there) that I have run into. Seems almost like old home week when we all get together.

I haven’t received any mail from you the past couple of days so think perhaps I will receive some on the ship if and when we have a mail call.

I am still feeling fine and hope you are also well and okay. The farther out we get the more I wish I was still in good old Oklahoma.

Well darling, that is about the extent of my news for now so will Say “Bye-Bye”.

Loving you
Clarence.
