Letter from Clarence Williams to Gretchen Williams, March 21, 1945

  Dearest Gretchen —

Long time no see honey, how are you doing? I received two letters from you today Feb 22nd and March 12th. Some fancy stationery you used when writing from Charlottes. Was glad to hear you got to talk with Otto wish I could do the same in person. I had thought so often of the many good times we have had together. Could go for one of those good old Pitch games right now.

Really had a scare this A.M. Insull, Miller and I went for a stroll and decided to visit an old castle high on top of a mountain. We were practically worn but when we reached the top and there about a yard from us was a sign, “Danger, S-Mine Trip Wire.” Sure enuff there it was with the top of the mine barely visible and after looking around we found another close by. We immediately turned around and back tracked, didn’t even bother to investigate the castle. I’ve decided since that my hiking days are over unless its on paved highways. Saw two fellows struck by an S-Mine and don’t care to come in contact with one.

Well darling its time for bed so must close. Bye for now. Worlds and Worlds of Love.

Clarence.
