Letter from Clarence Williams to Gretchen Williams, March 22, 1945

  My Darling —

I’m lying out on the terrace of an old school grounds writing you in the hot sun. Immediately after crossing the border we stopped the vehicles and all urinated on the German Faterland. I don’t like to use these V-Mails but my envelopes are still packed. I know how you probably hate to receive them. This is the second day of spring and is truly a beautiful day in fact we have been taking pictures with Millers camera. Incidentally if you can find any 120 film please send some so we can take more pictures. This town is pretty badly shot up with few buildings not damaged. I hope from now on they ruin the town so they can never be replaced. Also think it would be a good idea to do the same with the inhabitants. Saw two truck loads of German prisoners pass by this morning. All the news for now honey so will close.

All my Love Clarence.
