Letter from Clarence Williams to Gretchen Williams, June 3, 1945

  Dearest Gretchen —

I had planned to write you last night but because of a rain and electrical storm, we had no lights. I decided to get up early this morning and write you first thing so that I can take it in to clearing with the rest of the mail this morning. I received another box yesterday from Williams & Kloms. It was the one containing the two cans of candy, some candy bars and Vienna sausages, also the crackers and peanut butter. Thanks a lot honey, it will really taste good.

I got my pictures back from my last two rolls of film yesterday. They were all fairly good except one which was a double exposure. The one of me at the pool makes me look round shouldered but otherwise is fairly good.

I didn’t get my letter finished in time this morning so will complete same now. It so happened an ambulance was leaving early with casualties so I took it in to get the mail.

This is another beautiful day and several of the boys left this morning on an excursion. They planned to go to Berchtesgaden and to visit another sea where there are several castles. The round trip is over 100 miles which is too far for me in a truck on ambulance.

I ride 8 miles each day now with my two trips to clearing and I’m even getting tired of that. I’ll be glad when Bob gets back from his pass as this job does take up a lot of time just in traveling.

Just returned from eating dinner and it was very good. We had ham baked with pineapple and it really tasted delicious, also had mashed potatoes, buttered peas, and peaches for desert.

I am inclosing a few pictures I took in Brenner Pass along with a summer view of our home. I think my camera takes pretty good pictures especially since the pictures at Brenner pass were taken on a cloudy day.

Well darling I am out of news for now but will try and write some more this evening. Have some more pictures to send too so until then — All my love and kisses.

Always yours Clarence.
