We spent very sad days always thinking of the loss of the poor Fritz Brauer. Martha was delighted to learn the city known I liked it very much in Berlin. We showed her as much as we could, and she was astonished at best she liked the large stores, the departments for sausages, meat and other victuals.

We are quite well and in the best of health.

Lothar wrote a long letter about himself and his love. He will never get a clever man, es ist schon so wie man immer sagte, wenn eine alte Scheune brennt, dann brennt sie lichterloh.

Meinen Brief 20 mit der traurigen Nachricht wirst Du wohl erhalten haben. So ein prächtiger Mensch musste fort.

Ich war am Sonntag zur Beerdigung in Dresden, die Gemeinde hatte eine sehr würdige Feier arrangiert und ihn in einem Ehrengrab bestattet.

Die Beteiligung war außerordentlich groß. Brauers, wenigstens Fritz, hat seinen Lift schon im Freihafen stehen und gerade am Sterbetage kam von Dr. Arnold ein Telegramm, dass er für alle 5 die Einreisegenehmigung nach Chile hat, und dass das Landungsgeld von ihm gestellt wird. Ist das nicht traurig? Margot geht in Kürze nach England und Brauers wollen dann alles vorbereiten um nach Chile zu gehen und dann Margot mitnehmen. Am 21.7. habe ich eine Genehmigung für den Hausverkauf erhalten und zwar zum neuen Einheitswert. Nun muss ich alles wegen der Hypotheken in Angriff nehmen. Den Brief wollen wir noch heute fort haben, da morgen die Normandie fährt. Wir haben von Dir nach 20 nichts erhalten. Bei Brauer ist infolge der Mittelohreiterung eine Gehirnhautentzündung hinzugekommen, an der er verstorben ist, ohne dass er wusste, dass es so ernst mit ihm steht. Er ist auch nach der zweiten Operation nicht mehr zum Bewusstsein gekommen.

Mutter wird in 2-3 Wochen Brauers in Dresden besuchen.

You have probably received my letter 20 containing the sad news by now. Such a decent person had to depart.

I went to the funeral in Dresden on Sunday. The parish arranged for a very worthy commemoration and laid him to rest in an honorary grave.

Many people attended the ceremony. Brauers, at least Fritz, has already left his lift in the community harbor, and on the day of the death, Dr. Arnold sent a telegram that he obtained an entry permit for all 5 for Chile, and that he will pay for all expenses. Brauer contracted and died of meningitis related to the middle-ear infection. He didn’t even know anything about being in such grave condition. He never regained consciousness after the second operation.

In 2-3 weeks, Mother will visit Brauers in Dresden.
