No. 42
1.16.40
My dear Heinz!
We haven’t heard from you since after your letter No.42, which arrived 12.31, and to which I replied
on 1.3 with No.41. We are very troubled by this. It is especially hard because you just changed jobs,
and we don’t know whether you are still at your position and whether you think that it may be a good
one for you. Please make sure to write to us regularly, so that we don’t have to wait needlessly,
and please write about everything, whatever it may be. Don’t lose your courage. Everything will turn out well. Today is Aunt Hanna’s birthday and I am starting a new course with my harem, making confectionery à la Hamann quality.
I am going together with 5 ladies, Muttel, Aunt Emma, Hanna, Hedwig Lachmann, and Mrs. Lesser. It
will be hard job for me. Some men can’t even handle one woman. On Sunday, a lady came to visit us.
She is the mother of Suse’s boss in B., a very nice lady. I put the remaining stamps of the Danzig series on this letter as postage. I used the 3, 4, 8, 12, 15, and 25 Pfennig stamps. I hope you received all 14 of them.
Warmest regards and kisses, and I hope to hear from you soon again,
Your Vatel.
My beloved son!
I hope you are doing well. I hope, especially, that you are healthy and that you will write to us
about everything even when you have worries. We are there for you in good and in bad times. We are healthy and doing well.
Hanna Brauer wrote that her children arrived safely. Georg has found a very good job already, is
making good money and wants to have his mother come soon to join him. What do you hear from Walter? I’m really getting good at 66, because we play every night now with Mrs. Lesser. We hope to receive a message from you every day. Please write often. That would make us very happy.
Warmest regards and kisses, wishing you the best,
with tender love,
your Muttel.
