Nachdem mein Brief 42 vorgestern abgegangen ist, kommt heute endlich Dein Brief 43 vom 22.12. an. Er ist also nicht, wie Du angenommen hast, noch im alten Jahreingetroffen, sondern hat reichlich 3 Wochen gebraucht. Gewöhnliche Briefe werdenwohl jetzt monatelang unterwegs sein. Wir freuen uns jedenfalls sehr von Dir Nachrichtzu haben, auch wenn Du noch in Deiner neuen Position ohne Erfolg bist, aber inzwischenhoffe ich, dass Du etwas Erfolg haben wirst. Es ist ja originell, dass Dein Wirt mit Böhlerzur Schule ging. B. geht es gut. Er ist jetzt in Altena i. Westfalen. Hanni ist noch in Wienund will in nächster Zeit zu uns kommen, um noch ihre hiesigen Angelegenheiten zuerledigen, denn sie hofft im Frühjahr nach U.S.A. reisen zu können. Ich vermisse leiderimmer wieder Deine Grüße an Lachmanns und Tante Hanna, es ist uns immer sehrpeinlich ihnen die Briefe deshalb nicht zeigen zu können. Wir sind jetzt sehr oftzusammen. Unser Konfektmachkursus hat begonnen und macht uns Spaß, wir werdenbald zu Hause üben. Wie weit bist Du mit Lothar. Jetzt hast Du doch Grund alles zuverlangen.

Etwas Mut und Glück gehört ja zu allem. Hörst Duöfter von Suse? Hast Du Frl. Margot schon gesprochen? Wir sind gesund und es geht uns gut. Wir spielen abends fleißig 66, spielen die Grammophon platten alle durch. Vatel bekam einen Kofferapparat zum Geburtstag und sovergeht die Zeit. Suse wird nun 25 Jahre, Euer Großvater wäre 100 Jahre. Tante Emmahat am 23.2. Geburtstag, lege doch für sie ein paar Zeilen bei. Lotte Lachmann hat eineTochter. Tante Emma ist nun schon lange dort bei ihrer Tochter.

After we sent letter No. 42 off to you yesterday, your letter No. 43, dated 12.22, finally arrived here. It didn’t, as you had hoped, arrive in 1939, instead it took 3 weeks to get here. Regular letters will probably take months now. In any case, we are happy to receive news from you, even if you haven’t had any success in your new position yet. In the meantime, I hope your luck has changed. How peculiar, that your landlord went to school with Böhler. B. is doing well. He is in Altena in Westphalia now. Hanni is still in Vienna and wants to visit us soon in order to take care of some business here. She is hoping to travel to the US in the spring. Unfortunately, you keep forgetting to send your regards to the Lachmanns and Aunt Hanna. We are always embarrassed not to be able to show them your letters because of it. We are spending a lot of time together now. The course in confectionary preparation has begun and is going well. We will soon try out some of what we’ve learned at home. How far did you get with Lothar? You should be in a position now to ask for everything.

The way to success isn’t always an easy path, but you are a Sunday child and hopefully will make it soon. Everything requires a little bit of courage and luck. Do you hear from Suse often? Have you spoken to Miss Margot yet? We are healthy and doing well. Every night we play 66 and listen to all of the old gramophone vinyls. Vatel received a compact player for his birthday. That’s how we pass the time. Suse is going to be 25 years old, your grandfather would have been 100 years old now. On February 23rd, it will be Aunt Emma’s birthday, please include a few lines for her. Lotte Lachmann had a baby girl. Aunt Emma has been visiting with her daughter for a while now.
