Letter from Clarence Williams to Gretchen Williams, January 13, 1945

  To My Darling —

I have been thinking about you all day and wondering what you might be doing this afternoon. We were working on the pay roll when I glanced at my watch and noticed it was […] I remarked to one of the boys it would be 12:30 in the middle west and that you were probably just having lunch and getting ready to go home.

This day on the ship has been about the same as usual except for working on the pay roll. The weather is still very nice and comfortable on deck with occasional showers and the sun coming out bright and warm soon after.

You know honey, I was thinking today how lucky it was that you went to Okla with me. I certainly enjoyed every minute we had together there and have since tho’t we could just as well have been together while I was in Kansas had I known what I know now. Guess in lots of ways we were pretty lucky however.

Played a little poker this afternoon, my first since being in the Army. Can you imagine that? Won a little but not much. Good way to pass away the time tho.

Well darling, guess this will have to be another boring letter as I can’t think of any more news whatsoever. Bye for now — give my regards to the Mann’s.

Worlds of love Clarence.
