Letter from Clarence Williams to Gretchen Williams, March 12, 1945

  My Darling —

I didn’t receive a letter from you yesterday and don’t have much news so this will be one of those boring letters.

So you heard General Collin’s radio broadcast. One of the boys here received a copy of the speech that was printed in the Muskogee paper. Sounds as though he really poured it on thick. I was glad you got to hear it any way. We were close by the point of origination.

Sgt. Insull and I went to the show last night and saw a double feature, Animal Kingdom and Up in Mabel’s Room. Animal Kingdom was very good entertainment with Dennis Morgan and Alexis Smith and we enjoyed it a lot. The other one was too silly to be good.

Honey I am enclosing a two, five and ten Franc note to give you an idea of what we use for money over here. The two Franc Note is our invasion money and we have those in practically all denominations up to 100. The other notes are regular French money, the 5 Franc note of the type used at the start of the war. We also have coins of one and two Francs made of light weight metal.

I received a letter from Albert Petrasek (one of the boys from good old Ft Riley) this morning. He was stationed where   we were when I saw Bill Dow. In fact they are in the same Division. He had moved out the morning of the day I was there to visit them so I left a note with a friend of his stating my address. There are five of them in that outfit but I got to see only Dow and Critchfield. He of course wanted to know about the boys that came into our division so I must write him the information.

Honey if pickles indicate love sickness then you know how long I have been sick. Any way I know they will taste delicious and also the sandwiches.

The war news sounds very good especially since the Rhine has been crossed. Only hope they can continue to move forward.

Well sweet, thats all for today except I love you. Bye for now.

Worlds of love,
your adoring husband,
Clarence.
