Letter from Clarence Williams to Gretchen Williams, March 15, 1945

  My Darling —

I havn’t had a chance to write you for a couple of days because of moving almost constantly. Don’t know how long we will be in our present location but probably not for long.

I received a letter from Charlotte Tuesday also one from Chuck Bremholm. He told me he was in a Machine Gun Squad and is in the 63rd Division. Also stated he met up with an 88 and got his foot injured also that it impact his nerves so he couldn’t eat or sleep. I didn’t get too excited because of knowing him and after seeing some we have had, don’t believe he could be too serious.

I havn’t received a letter from you in several days but hope I get some today. Perhaps the mail is having trouble keeping up with our moving around, anyway I hope to get a group when they finally arrive.

It is really noisy here where we are now located. The artillery is behind us and every time they open up the windows practically vibrate out of this old house we are staying in.

The weather is beautiful here today and the sun is very warm. It is a good day for air support and the air is humming from the motors in the planes. Seems good to see plenty of them overhead when   you know they are your own.

I am inclosing two old German bills given me by some boys in a Tank Destroyer outfit. Thought you might like to see what some of their old money is like. There new bills are smaller more nearly the size of ours and of course we have invasion money for Germany also which is quite similar to that used in France.

Well darling I must close and get to work again. Started on this about 9:00 AM and it is now 4:00 PM so we havn’t had much spare time. I love you.

your adoring husband Clarence.
