Letter from Clarence Williams to Gretchen Williams, April 15, 1945

  My Darling Wife —

I have only a few minutes to drop you a line before going to bed but did want to say hello and tell you I love you, as if you didn’t know. I didn’t receive any mail from you again today but did get a letter from Everett. He stated he is still working for the railroad and that he had sent another box of candy. We have been very busy moving the past couple days consequently I havn’t had a chance to write you. We played some bridge the other nite after writing you and Lt. Zander and I lost. I had only one good hand all evening, bid a small slam and made it which was surprising for me. Insull and I just finished making some hot chocolate. We used some “D” ration chocolate bars, heated some water and evaporated milk, added some sugar and it really tasted good. In fact I am going to do that more often. It was especially good today since we are on “K” rations and “C” rations. The weather here has been some better this past couple of days. Yesterday when the convoy pulled off the road to park for the afternoon we had a ball game for a while. Couldn’t do any work as all my records and typewriter were buried on the truck. Well honey thats all for now but will try and do better tomorrow. Bye for now.

All my Love Clarence.
